Getting started

From a new account to a TV that signs itself in. Every step is here, and the whole guide is one page so you can search it.

01

Create your account

Your Portsyde account is the dashboard you manage everything from. It takes a minute, and no card is needed to start.

  1. 1Open Sign in and enter your email address. That address is how you get into the dashboard.
  2. 2Choose the username and password your apps will use. These are the server credentials, separate from the email above, and every app you connect will ask for them.
  3. 3Stay on Free, or move to Plus whenever you want faster starts and a closer region. Nothing about your setup changes when you switch.

Your server address appears on the dashboard as soon as the account exists. It looks like https://your-address.portsyde.com and it is the one thing every app needs from you.

02

Add your sources and services

This is the part you only do once. Everything you connect stays where it is; nothing is copied to us.

  1. 1Open Setup in the dashboard and add a source or service.
  2. 2Give it the address and the credentials you already use for it. They are stored encrypted and used only to reach that service for you.
  3. 3Pick the catalogs you want visible, and the order they appear in. Every app you connect sees the same arrangement.
  4. 4Wait for the status to read Ready. Portsyde checks each one and tells you which is not answering.

Portsyde never stores or hosts media. It keeps your configuration and hands each app the path to the source, which then plays straight to the device.

03

Connect an app

Every app asks for the same three things: the server address, your username, your password. Copy the address from your dashboard exactly as it appears.

Server address

https://your-address.portsyde.com

Include https://, leave off any trailing slash, and do not add a port.

Atlas

Made for Portsyde

Apple TV, iPhone, iPad

  1. 1Open Atlas and choose Add server.
  2. 2Enter your server address and continue.
  3. 3Enter your username and password, then sign in. On Apple TV, pick Quick Connect instead and approve the code from your phone.

Infuse

Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, Mac

  1. 1Open Infuse and go to Add Files.
  2. 2Choose Jellyfin from the list of source types.
  3. 3Put your server address in the Address field, your username in Username and your password in Password. Leave the port blank.
  4. 4Save. Your catalogs appear in the Infuse library once it has finished its first scan.

Swiftfin

Apple TV, iPhone, iPad

  1. 1Open Swiftfin and choose Connect to Server, then enter your server address.
  2. 2Pick your user from the list Swiftfin shows, or choose to sign in manually.
  3. 3Enter your username and password and sign in. On Apple TV, use Quick Connect and approve the six-digit code from your phone.

Jellyfin apps

Android TV, web, desktop

  1. 1Open the app and choose Add Server.
  2. 2Enter your server address and connect. The app finds the server and shows the sign-in screen.
  3. 3Enter your username and password. On a TV, choose Quick Connect and approve the code instead.

Findroid and Streamyfin follow the same three steps: address, username, password.

04

Pair a TV with Quick Connect

Nobody should type a password with a remote. Quick Connect is included on every plan, paid or not.

  1. 1On the TV, choose Quick Connect on the sign-in screen. A six-digit code appears.
  2. 2On your phone, in an app that is already signed in, or in your Portsyde dashboard, open Devices and enter the code.
  3. 3Approve it. The TV signs itself in within a few seconds, and it stays signed in.

Codes are short-lived on purpose. If one expires before you get to it, go back to the TV and ask for a new one.

05

Troubleshooting

Five things account for nearly every setup that does not work first time.

The app cannot reach the server
Re-copy the address from your dashboard. It needs the https:// prefix, no trailing slash and no port, and a typed address is wrong more often than not.
Sign-in is rejected
Apps want your Portsyde username and password, not the email you use for the dashboard and not the credentials for one of your own services. Reset them from Account if you are unsure.
The Quick Connect code does not work
The code has probably expired. Ask the TV for a new one, and approve it from a device that is already signed in or from the dashboard.
A title will not play
Playback runs from your source to your device, so the source has to be reachable. Open Setup and check that the service behind that title still reads Ready.
Playback takes a while to start
The first start of a title is the slowest, because the path to it has not been worked out yet. Plus keeps the fastest path warm and serves from the region nearest whoever is watching.
