Portsyde stores three things in your browser, all of them necessary for the site to work. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, which is why you are reading a short page and not clicking through a consent dialog.
1.What this policy covers
This policy covers cookies and similar browser storage used on portsyde.com and in the Portsyde dashboard. "Cookie" below is shorthand for both: a cookie sent with each request, and an entry in your browser's local storage that never leaves your device.
The difference matters in one way worth knowing: a cookie is sent to our servers with each request, while local storage stays in your browser and we never see it. Two of the three items below never leave your device. For everything else we do with personal data, see the Privacy Policy.
2.What we store
- Sign-in session
- A cookie that keeps you signed in as you move between pages, set when you enter a one-time code and cleared when you sign out. Without it, every page would ask you to sign in again. This is the only item sent to our servers.
- Theme preference
- A local storage entry recording whether you chose light, dark or system appearance, so the site does not flash the wrong theme on the next load. It stays on your device.
- Cookie notice dismissal
- A local storage entry recording that you dismissed the notice at the bottom of the page, so it does not come back on every visit. It stays on your device.
That is the complete list. If it ever grows, this page changes first.
3.How long each one lasts
None of these outlive their purpose:
- The sign-in session ends when you sign out, and expires on its own after a period of inactivity, at which point you sign in again with a fresh one-time code.
- The theme preference and the notice dismissal have no expiry, because a preference with an expiry date is just a preference that stops working. They stay until you clear your browser's site data.
- One-time sign-in codes are not stored in your browser at all. They live for a few minutes on our side and are used once.
4.Why we do not ask for consent
Consent rules exist so you can refuse the storage you do not need. All three items above are strictly necessary to deliver a service you asked for: one keeps you signed in, and two remember a choice you made on this site. None of them profiles you, follows you between sites, or feeds anyone else.
Because there is nothing optional here, a consent banner would be asking a question with one possible answer. We show a short notice instead, and it links to this page.
5.What we do not use
It is easier to describe this by what is absent. There is no third-party script on our pages at all, so there is nothing here that could quietly start collecting more than it should:
- No advertising cookies, and no advertising.
- No analytics cookies, and no third-party analytics scripts. We look at aggregate server metrics such as request counts and error rates, which are not tied to a browser or a person.
- No cross-site tracking, fingerprinting or social media pixels.
- No third-party cookies of any kind on our own pages.
6.Cookies set by other companies
When you pay or manage a subscription, you are handed over to Stripe on Stripe's own pages. Stripe sets its own cookies there, under its own policies, mainly to process the payment and prevent fraud. We do not control them and we do not receive them.
The same goes for any third-party source or service you connect to your setup: what those sites store in your browser is between you and them.
7.How to see and clear them
Every browser lets you inspect and delete site data, usually under Settings, then Privacy, then cookies and site data. Look for the entry under our domain and clear it.
- Signing out clears the session cookie immediately, which is the quickest way to remove the only item we send to our servers.
- Clearing site data removes all three. You will be signed out, the theme returns to following your system setting, and the notice at the bottom of the page appears once more.
- Blocking cookies for our domain entirely will stop you signing in, because the session cookie is what keeps you signed in.
Browsers also offer a private or incognito window, which discards everything when you close it. That works fine here; you will simply sign in again next time, and the theme will follow your system setting rather than a saved choice.
You do not need to ask us to delete any of this, and there is no setting of ours to change. All three items are in your browser, under your control, and clearing them costs you nothing but a sign-in.
8.Do Not Track and global privacy signals
We do not track you, so a Do Not Track header or a Global Privacy Control signal has nothing to switch off. We honour them by having nothing for them to disable, and we have no sale or sharing of personal information to opt out of.
9.Changes to this policy
If we ever add something to the list above, we will update this page and its effective date before the change ships. If anything non-essential were ever added, we would ask for your consent first.
